Antique oil painting of two Scottish highland cows
A beautiful antique oil on canvas portrait of two highland cattle in their favourite environment, among the wild highland brachan with mountain ranges stretching off into the background. A warm and inviting study with lovely use of light and colour, one of the cows is recumbant among the heather as birds fly up in the background, the setting sunlight bouncing off the underside of the clouds from beyond the mountains. The bottom right corner of the canvas bears the artists signature, with the oil painting mounted in an antique gilt gesso frame. The reverse of the frame bears a nice original antique label for 'J.W. Richards of Swansea - Carver, Gilder, Photographer'.

In original antique condition, the painting would benefit from a light clean.
There is a small patch of paint loss on the left side next to the brown cow's nose (photo 5) probably due to impact, it's not gone completely through but it can still be seen on the reverse side of the canvas (photo 13).
