Antique square ironstone PURE BUTTER slab - Banfield
An attractive Edwardian white ironstone grocers slab, used by the turn of the century shopkeeper to display dairy on a cool surface throughout the day. A large, square example with slightly chamfered edges, the front is decorated with black under-glaze 'Pure Butter' lettering. Each side of the slab has a cutout handle on the bottom rim, with the underside bearing the retailers advertising roundel of 'S. Banfield - Brighton, Horsham, Eastbourne, Worthing, Hastings.'

A chip on the top of the right edge has been professionally restored, along with a light surface crack on the front left corner. Otherwise the slab is in very good condition with decorative staining, firing marks and wear.
