Antique white ironstone PURE LARD slab - dairy grocers slab
A scarce antique square white ironstone pottery 'Pure Lard' slab, decorated along the front edge with stylised lettering in under-glaze black transfer.
Dating to the early 1900s.
Used by the turn of the century grocer, butcher and dairies before widespread refrigeration, these slabs were often placed outside overnight to chill before being adorned with butter, margarine, lard and butchers produce, the white glazed ironstone pottery keeping cool in the display cabinets throughout the day.

This piece is in excellent condition with some fat staining on the top, some light usage marks but no damage.
The is a slight manufacturing fault on the front side between the words pure and lard.
