Antique ironstone pie dish - Fanconi & Co. Boscombe Arcade
A large antique white ironstone pie dish, decorated on the face with a rare black under glaze transfer for Fanconi & Co. Boscombe Arcade (Bournemouth), who were listed in an 1889 trade directory as a confectioner. Many confectioners and bakers of the time also provided contract catering and had tea rooms, which this dish may have been used for.
Produced by Booths of Staffordshire with their green maker’s mark beneath, the underside also bears an oval black transfer of the grocers outfitters from where it was purchased - James Green & Nephew, London.
A very scarce piece of transfer ware ironstone, possibly a lone survivor of its type?
