Dutch Simplex porcelain Marette advertising piece - ceramic wire nut model
A rare early 20thC Dutch porcelain advertising piece in the shape of a Marette, or vintage electrical wire nut connector. These were used in early 20th-century electrical systems, common from the late 1920s through the 1950’s, to join multiple electrical wires safely together. Unlike modern plastic wire nuts that often contain a metal spring, these porcelain versions typically use a threaded interior cone to hold the wires in place.
Modelled in the shape of their much smaller counterpart, this larger porcelain piece is decorated with green transfer advertising for Simplex - “Whoever uses Simplex saves money”. The reverse side bears the locations of the firm, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Groningen.
