A circular Victorian white ironstone scale plate, decorated with a rare red transfer for W. & T. Avery, Birmingham.
An unusual and scarcely seen scale plate, especially in this colourway, the transfer incorporates a scrolling banner and bold typography with a very decorative entwined border around the circumference.
Used by the Victorian/Edwardian grocer or butcher on a set of balance scales, scale plates like these make excellent cheese boards or serving platters.
